Here's an interesting article from yesterday's NYT:
North Carolina Asks E.P.A. to Force Others to Clean Air: By JENNIFER 8. LEE Published: March 19, 2004 WASHINGTON, March 18 In a move that opens a new front in the clean air wars, North Carolina has petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to crack down on pollution that it says is seeping across its borders from power plants in 13 other states.
The author's middle name appears to be "8".

Crimes of Passion...
CNN.com - Couple arrested after 'Passion' fight - Mar 18, 2004: STATESBORO, Georgia (AP) -- A couple who got into a dispute over a theological point after watching 'The Passion of the Christ' were arrested after the argument turned violent. The two left the movie theater debating whether God the Father in the Holy Trinity was human or symbolic, and the argument heated up when they got home, Melissa Davidson said. 'It was the dumbest thing we've ever done,' she said. Davidson, 34, and her husband, Sean Davidson, 33, were charged with simple battery on March 11 after the two called police on each other. They were released on $1,000 bail. According to a police report, Melissa Davidson suffered injuries on her arm and face, while her husband had a scissors stab wound on his hand and his shirt was ripped off. He also allegedly punched a hole in a wall.

Ah, the south, always looking for someone to hate.
Contra Costa & Alameda: "DAYTON, Tenn. - Commissioners in rural, conservative Rhea County never intended to create the 'wildfire' of reaction that resulted from banning gay people, the county attorney said after the board reversed its 2-day-old decision. The original vote was meant to show support for the state's ban on same-sex marriages, county Attorney Gary Fritts said Thursday. ...Fritts said he advised the commissioners that they could not ban homosexuals or make them subject to criminal charges. The U.S. Supreme Court last year struck down laws on homosexual sodomy as a violation of adults' privacy. Commissioner J.C. Fugate, whose initiated the Tuesday motion, also made the motion to rescind it Thursday. In a discussion about gays and same-sex marriage at the earlier meeting, Fugate had asked the county attorney to find a way to 'keep them out of here.' Twelve-year-old Caitlin Kinney and others in a noisy crowd at the courthouse Thursday night were disappointed at the reversal. The seventh-grader said she doesn't want homosexuals in the community. 'It's not a Christian thing,' said Kinney, identifying herself as a Baptist. 'I've never seen nothing like this,' Fritts said at the historic courthouse where a jury 79 years ago convicted John Scopes for teaching evolution. During the Thursday meeting, social worker Esther Jackson, 24, held a sign saying, 'Breed Love, Not Hate.' 'I'm just making a statement that I don't think it's right,' Jackson said of the Tuesday vote. 'It's just ignorance, is all.'"
Wow. Well, I guess I'll go out now and breed some love.

Slashdot | City Officials Almost Ban Foam Cups: "The city of Aliso Viejo, CA nearly banned foam cups when they learned they are produced from a substance known as 'dihydrogen monoxide.' A paralegal working for the city apparantly found a professionally designed web site put up to describe the dangerous properties of this chemical. Apparantly, the report about Dihydrogen Monoxide was written by a then 14-year-old Nathan Zohner who was researching the gullibility of fifty ninth graders."

I've considered posting my thoughts about the current "fetal homicide" case in Utah, against the evil baby-killer whom we'll call "Rowland," for failing to rescue her unborn child from the certain death of natural child birth. Unfortunately, I have quite a lot of thoughts about the Utah law, and how unbelievably fucking shitty it is. If I was to post all my thoughts here, it would be too long and all in caps. So I'll just summarize: FUCK.
