I fixed some of the formatting, but had to throw out my customizations. The blog template was just too munged to fix. Technology is hard. But the comments are working again!

The "comments" links don't seem to be working, along with a few other things. This is because I edited my blog template in Netscape, which deletes some of the html tags. If I try to edit again it will only delete more tags. Internet Explorer can no longer tell that I'm online, so I can't use that. I guess I'll just have to wait til hell freezes over for simple technology that works.

Representative proposes mandatory military service (see this article). "I'm going to introduce legislation to have universal military service to let everyone have an opportunity to defend the free world against the threats coming to us." Sounds great. I was getting way tired of that whole modernity thing. Life, liberty, and the pursute of happiness are a total waste of the government's potential for militaristic despotism.

The best part: Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York, said such legislation could make members of Congress more reluctant to authorize military action... "When you talk about a war, you're talking about ground troops, you're talking about enlisted people, and they don't come from the kids and members of Congress," he said. "I think, if we went home and found out that there were families concerned about their kids going off to war, there would be more cautiousness and a more willingness to work with the international community than to say, 'Our way or the highway.' "

This sounds like just the thing to fix the image of the Democratic party with workaday Americans. Make all the kids join the army. This man is clearly not insane.

I've been in Utah for the past week, separated from my usual intravenous internet and cable news connections. I came up to the U today to get reconnected, and after peeking at the current news it looks like we're about to start World War III with Iraq, N. Korea, China, Iran, etc etc. Fun times.

I came up with some cool new circuit stuff this week (everyone cheers). My money issues are finally cleared up (yay! I get to live!). I had the satisfaction of paying off 100% of my credit card balances the other day. Zero is a beautiful thing.

Soap box: I think we should have open hunting season on that woman from the Monex commercials (the slow-talking mature bitch with the snooty English accent). "Now is the perfect time to invest in gold. Do it now, before you watch the value of your paper decline any further." I get nausiated every time I see that damn commercial. "Monex, America's oldest company, specializing in precious metal investments for individuals." They are preying on slow-minded, frightened elderly people who can't tell how annoying that English robot-bitch really is. GGGGARRRR!
