"I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day." -Douglas Adams

In an era of rampant persecution against fundamentalist Christians, against Catholics and especially against Mormons, some thoughtful souls are led to ask "are Atheists taking over everything?" These people might be suprised to learn the heart-warming truth that Atheists are officially discriminated against in the Constitutions of seven states. The Nebraska Atheists have compiled a list of quotes from these Constitutions. North Carolina's has this in it:
Article 6 Section 8 of North Carolina's State Constitution 'Disqualifications of office. The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.'
This version of North Carolina's state Constitution was ratified in 1971. Whew! Atheists have been clamboring to stop Christianity for decades. But we can rest easy now that we know the Christians have been clamboring too. Carolinians can have the comfort and security of knowing that none of their public officials would deny the Almoghty Gawd. Otherwise they could be impeached and permanently barred from holding any public office in that fine state. Finally we know that our freedom of religion is truly protected.
